Terms of Use

1. Purpose

These terms govern the rights, obligations, and responsibilities between Semolab (세모연구소) (the "Company") and users in connection with the use of "gugudan" (the "Service").

2. Definitions

  • "Service" means the multiplication-tables learning and voice-grading app provided by the Company.
  • "User" means anyone who uses the Service under these terms, including a child and that child's parent or legal guardian.
  • "Voice grading" means the optional feature that converts a child's spoken answer to text to indicate whether it is correct.

3. Effect and changes

  • These terms take effect when posted in the app or on this website.
  • The Company may amend these terms within the limits of applicable law, and will give notice at least 7 days before the effective date of a change.

4. The Service

The Company provides:

  • Multiplication-tables practice and quizzes with instant grading;
  • (optional) voice grading that converts a child's spoken answer to text for grading.

The Service has no sign-up and does not store users' personal information on a company server. Basic features are free; some features are paid (see section 8).

5. The voice feature and consent

  • Voice grading is optional; without it, all features remain available through keyboard input.
  • When voice grading is on, the child's spoken answer is sent abroad (to the United States) for conversion to text. This feature operates only when a parent or legal guardian has enabled it; details are set out in the Privacy Policy.
  • The spoken answer is deleted immediately after conversion and is not retained.

6. Limits and disclaimer of the voice feature

  • Voice recognition and grading are a learning aid, and errors may occur during recognition or grading.
  • The Company does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of grading results; the final judgment about a child's learning rests with the parent or guardian.
  • The Company is not liable for damage caused by grading errors except in cases of the Company's intent or gross negligence.

7. User obligations

Users must not:

  • reverse-engineer the Service, or collect from or misuse it through automated means;
  • place abnormal load on, or circumvent or abuse, the relay server;
  • violate applicable law or these terms.

8. Payment

The Service provides its basic features (e.g., tables 2 and 3) for free. Unlocking all tables (4–9) is offered from July 11, 2026 as a one-time paid in-app purchase through the App Store and Google Play. Payment, cancellation, refunds, and withdrawal for the paid product are governed by the separate Cancellation & Refund Policy.

9. Changes to and suspension of the Service

The Company may change or suspend all or part of the Service as needed for operational or technical reasons, with prior notice (or notice afterward in urgent cases).

10. Liability and disclaimer

  • The Company is not liable for damage arising from causes for which it is not responsible, such as force majeure, the user's fault, or the nature of the Service.
  • Matters not provided for in these terms are governed by applicable law and common practice.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you use the Service as a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of the law of your country of residence.

For users in the Republic of Korea, disputes relating to use of the Service are brought before the court having jurisdiction under the Civil Procedure Act. If you reside outside the Republic of Korea, nothing in these terms limits any non-waivable right you may have to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence under its applicable law.
